Who has time for Time Management?

In a recent survey performed by LifeCare®, a life management service company, nearly half of the employees surveyed (47%) said "time management" was the number one source of stress in their lives.

Whether personal or business, getting your tasks done in a reasonable amount of time is what time management is all about.

6 ways to make the most of your time

1.
Use a proven system – Everyone is different when it comes  to scheduling their time.  Resources such as a Franklin Planner, Outlook, Palm Pilot, or a simple calendar can be useful in organizing your to do lists.  Whatever system you choose, use your system to prioritize your tasks.

2.

Schedule “Do Not Disturb Time” – Who has time for this?  Whether it is an hour a day or a day a week, for any system to succeed you need time to focus on tasks that require your undivided attention.  Do not disturb time is a great time for business owners to work “on” their company rather than “in” their company.

3.

Delegate – As a business owner, learn to delegate tasks that can be performed by others.  You can multiply your efforts by investing your time in training others to accomplish many of the tasks that you are performing now.

4.

Create a project calendar – If your task requires more than one step or takes longer than a few minutes, schedule it as a project on your calendar for a later time.   Too many perceived small tasks eat up valuable unallocated time.
5.

Make Meetings Efficient – Meetings can be a huge waste of time.  You can help make better use of the time by:
      a.  Sticking to defined start and stop times.
      b.  Printing an agenda and sending out ahead of time to the participants.
      c.  Keeping the meeting moving; limiting rabbit trails

6.

Take time for fun and exercise – If you don’t have time in your schedule now for fun and exercise, begin building it in.  Doing things you enjoy will help you get more done and feel good about what you are accomplishing.
