"Fulling Management may be your solution to getting back on the right track."

“We just don’t communicate anymore.”
Ever felt like you just are not communicating with someone? Whether it’s a spouse, friend, business partner or accountant, clear communication can be vital to a relationship and your success.
Now I do not claim to be an expert in communication, my wife would vouch for that, but I recently learned an important lesson in ensuring proper communication in business.
I had the opportunity to speak to a group of business owners about the importance of financial statements. I had my Power Point presentation and handouts all prepared. I was convinced I was going to “Wow!” them with my financial vocabulary and management expertise.
About half way into my lecture on the difference between cash basis and accrual basis financial statements, a brave gentleman in the back of the room raised his hand and said “I am totally confused.” As the entire group shared a big laugh, I realized that he was not alone in his understanding of what I was attempting to communicate.
Just like my bewildered audience it’s important to ask questions and get more clarification when working with your accountant or other professionals. Likewise it is important to provide clear communications and expectations to your accountant as well. This will provide them the tools to help you succeed.
Here are a few suggestions when communicating with your accountant
| 1. | Provide them all pertinent financial data – If you think it might be relevant to your business or personal income – it probably is. |
| 2. | Provide them articles that you read or come across that might be applicable to your situation. Don’t assume they already know it. |
| 3. | Ask questions and expect clear feedback. Remember most accountants are bilingual, meaning they typically talk using financial terminology but when pressed most can actually speak clearly. |
Remember: You are more likely to experience success by maintaining clear communication with those you depend on.
