Leaving a Legacy - The Building Blocks of leaving a legacy

The Fulling team is continuing to watch Leaving a Legacy - Stephanie Stuckey.

“Leading in today’s climate is tough enough. However, leaving a legacy that matters is what counts. Stephanie Stuckey lays out a process of how to not just lead well but how to lead with leaving a legacy in mind.”

Stephanie Stuckey mentions 2 tools to use as a company to build a legacy.

1) Resilience – bouncing back stronger and better.  Change is inevitable.  It’s important to embrace it and see it as an opportunity.

2) Learning from failure.  Keep trying.  Pivot when needed.  Failure is a way to point you in the direction you need to be going.

In groups, we talked about if it’s hard to embrace change or not.  We talked about that you can always revert back if you make a change, and it doesn’t work out.  Or you can continue to make tweaks.  It’s harder to make change when there’s a lot of expense involved in the change or when a process seems to be working.  It doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t continue to make changes to grow and improve though.

One group talked about when facing failure or making a mistake, that we chose to admit it and move forward with making a change or correction.  It’s important to keep in mind that it’s ok to make mistakes.  We aren’t going to be perfect.  We need to try again though and learn from them.  We talked about keeping in mind how we react to other’s mistakes and making sure we don’t instill fear to try new things in order to avoid making a mistake.  A lot of times we have a fear of failure to try new things.

Failure isn’t final!

Food for Thought

  1. Change is inevitable and you can either fight it or embrace it. Is it hard for you to embrace change?

  2. How do you regroup when you’ve faced failure? Have you had an experience turning a failure into a valuable learning?

  3. How can we use these tools as a company to build a legacy?
